Brief Sexual Attitudes Scale (BSAS)

This is a validated self-report assessment developed to help you better understand how your attitudes align with others. You can give the results link provided at the end of the evaluation to your therapist to discuss during your next session. Learn more about the assessment.


Below are several statements about sex, crafted to assess your attitudes about different aspects of sexuality. These aspects include:

  • Permissiveness: how accepting and open you are in relationships
  • Birth Control: Responsibility in birth control and its importance to sexuality.
  • Communion: How you feel about the act of being sexual, your partner, and the importance of the relationship in sex
  • Instrumentality: How much you enjoy the physical act of sex.
I do not need to be committed to a person to have sex with him/her.

Casual sex is acceptable.
